ASMSU support!

Yesterday ASMSU approved a resolution, proposed by the AIC, that will change the Student Code of Conduct, more information on the language can be found here.  As said in a previous post this is important because it shows student support for what the AIC is trying to accomplish.  This is not an overhaul of policy at Montana State, it is simply a more specific statement of Academic Integrity.  But the most important aspect of this change is that we are opening a dialog of Academic Integrity here at MSU.

It's Official!

The Academic Integrity Club is an official club of Montana State University!  Today AIC President John Richardson received confirmation from the Office of Activity Engagement that they will be recognizing AIC as a club.  This, paired with our presentation to the ASMSU senators,  is a massive step forward for Academic Integrity at MSU.  Although this is not direct policy change at Montana State it is setting the stage for the advancement of an Honor Culture at MSU.

Here is what we have been up to:

Our presentation to the ASMSU Senators went well, thanks to members Kori and Tia, and the Senators will be deciding on the resolution on April 16.

The application to become and official Montana State Club have been signed and turned in. We are currently eagerly awaiting a response.

Plans are in the works for an end of the year rally on Academic Integrity!  Any suggestions are welcome, just head over to our twitter or leave a comment below.

Montana State Student Code of Conduct

We recently posted a picture of Tia and Kori (although mislabeled Tia and Kia) working hard on our presentation for the ASMSU Senators.  We realized that we did this without even explaining what we are looking to achieve!  The Academic Integrity Club is spear-heading change in the Montana State Student Code of Conduct to include a new academic expectation and a definition of Academic Integrity.  The exact wording for our proposed changes are as follows:

APPENDIX A

We propose the following additions to the Student Code of Conduct

310.00 ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS
G. conduct themselves honestly and with integrity

340.10 ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Students must adhere to a high standard of moral and ethical principles in
scholarship. Students create a culture in which peers are encouraged to inspire
one another to perform scholarship with high levels of truthfulness and respect for
others’ work.

We would like to gain the unanimous support from the Student Senate so we can fight for these changes with a unified student voice.  We realize that this small change will not alter the academic culture at MSU but we hope, with a successful campaign, this can set a precedence for involvement for both the Academic Integrity Club and the MSU student body.
